At the Strip

Carl forgot to Video the Golf Cart but here is my first real DragRace! After 2 practice passes solo I lined up against this guy J Vela. He ran a 7.52 to my 7.85. Pretty cool but I’m still stressing the launch pretty bad. The HeavyBus was still geared for LSR (Carl says that was a good thing) and had very little pull in 1st (plus I was launching pretty easy) but every pass it broke loose in 2nd.

I haven’t figured out the burnout thing yet so Carl has to do the burnout then hand me the HeavyBus. The one pass I made with out a burnout scared the daylights(and something else) right out of me it spun through 3 gears and wouldn’t hook till I rolled out in 3rd! Any way now that I have the first time under my belt the butterflies aren’t so bad!

Dragging

I’m going to try this Drag Racing thing one more time! I got rained out last week so maybe this week, but of course it’s overcast and raining everywhere but right where I’m standing. We tested the Golf Cart with a new motor yesterday and it stood straight up! It also ran close to 80MPH!

The owner and one of the Guys are setting up the wheelie bars right now so if things stay dry at the Drag Strip I should get to run it. I’m also taking the HeavyBus for a few passes to see how I’m going to like Drag Racing a Bike. I measured the stretch last night I THOUGHT it was 6″ turns out it’s 8″! A little longer than I though but that should hold the front down.

Installing a Derestrictor

The last two times I went to the Texas Mile I ran an IVAN’S T.R.E. (Timing Retard Eliminator). Suzuki uses a signal from the G.P.S. (Gear Position Sensor) to tell the ECU the Bike is in 6th gear. The ECU then retards the timing to prevent the bike from running above 186MPH. The T.R.E. Tells the ECU that the Bike is in 5th gear all of the time allowing it to pull as far as the engine has power to pull. The problem is this equals a rough idle in neutral and less than optimal mapping because the ECU is running the 5th gear map in all gears.

So after some research We have decided to run the Boost By Smith De-Restrictor. The De-Restrictor tells the ECU the correct values in every gear until 6th which it then tells the ECU is still 5th. Eliminating the top speed restriction without the shortfalls of a T.R.E.. Also the price is considerably cheaper about $30 US. The De-Restrictor comes in two Models one for Suzuki’s with a gear position read out on the Dash and those without a gear indicator. If you have a bike with a gear indicator the De-Restrictor with a switch on it is the one you want. This allows you to turn it on or off which makes the Gear Position readout on the Dash read normally and leaves the speed restriction in place until the switch position is changed.

Back to the Strip!

Well it’s back to the DragStrip tonight !

The Boss wants to Run the Electric Car again this time with a bigger new Motor and fresh batteries!
I think it might lift the front end now so I stopped at the house at lunch and picked up a set of wheelie bars I just hope we have time this afternoon to install them!

Whatcha’ think?

Well we pulled the HeavyBus out today into the sunshine for a few quick pics, although the color isn’t a great match I like the layout. It might stay like this till after the mile unless I get some free time.
